Drug Prevention Week

This week I have been helping Col. W. Casey and John Adair elementary schools get ready for drug prevention week. I have gotten all the materials together, passed them out to teachers etc. However, since my criminal background check still isn't in, I haven't been able to actually do anything with the children yet. Which is extremely frustrating considering that we sent that in August and now being also November it still isn't back yet. I kind of feel like by the time it gets here, I will have already moved on to a different site.

Fall Break

For fall break I was able to go to New York City with residence life. While we were there, we worked with an organization called God's Love We Deliver. It's and organization that makes and delivers food daily to people who have AIDS and other terminal illnesses. Since I had been sick I was not allow to handle the food for obvious reasons, however I did get to to help out with the business side of the organization. It was real neat to work with client services and the developmental department. Other than office work I did get to go out with the rest and make walking deliveries. That might have been my favorite part. Taking food to all these different places, each one was unique. It was truly a great experience and I can't wait to go back next fall.

More sickness

Once again, I did not go to the Family Resource Center this week due to sickness and the fact it would only be open half the week because of fall break. I did however stuff envelopes with Erin Laborda for KCA nominations. Which I was told would count for Bonner. Hopefully, I will soon be recovered so I can get back to functioning again.

Sickness

Due to sickness I have to sit out this week for Bonner. Which really kind of sucks because I rather do enjoy my site. Hopefully the antibiotics will clear up whatever it is I have, or that I will finally just test positive for mono. Either way I would just like to know when I can start doing just everyday things again and not feel exhausted after doing so.

With my Bonner site, I pretty much still feel like I am just now getting into the routine of things. But I do like the women who run the Family Resource center for Col. William Casey and John Adair Elem. But for this week not much happened. This coming Thursday however I am helping them with a program that they are putting on. It's bingo for grandparents and their grandchildren. It should be fun, I get to call out the numbers. So we shall see.

Still getting started

Well, yesterday i went to the Family Resource Center and watched the little kids get their teeth cleaned. It was so cute, this one little boy was absolutely terrified and was balling he did not want to have any work done. Well, he was finally brave enough to be their little helper and hold the mirror, etc. After a few minutes of that he decided that it was OK if he brushed his teeth. It was awesome to see this little boy conquer his fear. What is not awesome however, is that my criminal background check hasn't come back yet so i still can not interact with the children. I can only watch, which literally sucks. So, i am hoping that it comes back soon so i can play games with them because they are all super cute!
